Reflecting
on the progress I’ve made throughout the quarter. I can honestly say that I
have not made the most of my time and I haven’t gotten as far as Id like. I
have contracted a case of writer’s block, and it has really gotten to me and
locked me up. It all comes down to making the characters dynamic and
interesting. The trouble for me has been
making characters that the audience would find emotionally intriguing.
Characters that they can relate to in some way and find an attachment. I decided
that for sure I’m writing a western, so to my at least I have that covered.
The general
idea of what I want is as follows:
A
pacifist pastor, who lives with his wife and 3 kids in the west in 1911, is
kidnapped and tortured by a group of ex-confederate soldiers from the south.
The man must overcome his pact not to fight in order to defend himself, his
home, and his family. He has to take up arms and become a legend of the west.
Characters:
Obadiah
Colt: A pastor living in western Utah.
Ella Claire
(Colt): Wife to Obadiah.
Abigail
Colt: 7 year old daughter
Maxwell
Colt: 17-year-old son
Travis
Colt: 11 year old son
Abraham Benet: Ex confederate
soldier, on a revenge run through the west because he feels that the civil war
is not over, and that by kidnapping and torturing union families he is doing
some divine good to the world.
Benet’s
crew: Ezra, Seth, Isaac, all are equally sadistic and violent, and join Benet
in his raids throughout the west.
